A 53 knot wind gust was measured at the Sullivan's Island Fire Department with a passing thunderstorm.

Strong thunderstorms developed in the afternoon hours within a very unstable environment and a sharp surface trough. These thunderstorms pushed toward the coast and produced very strong wind gusts along area beaches and the adjacent coastal waters.
