Event narrative

Eighteen soldiers were treated for injuries after lightning struck near where they were training. No soldier was directly struck, but they were taken to the hospital. Ten of the soldiers remained hospitalized overnight.

Wider weather episode

A series of weak disturbances aloft interacted with a very moist air mass and triggered scattered showers and thunderstorms. One of these storms resulted in some minor wind damage. Also, a lightning strike injured 18 soldiers during a training activity.
