Event narrative

The very dry conditions continued across central Mississippi in October. The extended dry stretch resulted in an area of extreme (D3) drought developing across much of the region by October 13th. Approximately 25 to 50 percent of normal rainfall occurred across this area from August into mid October. Crops were put under more stress from the dry and hot conditions. Heavy rainfall fell during the period from October 20th to October 27th, which resulted in the intensity of the drought falling back to Moderate (D1) Drought conditions by October 27th.

Wider weather episode

Very dry conditions occurred over Central Mississippi during the summer months with severe to extreme drought conditions developing over the area by September and continuing into October.
