Coastal Flood — Calhoun, Texas

2015-10-22 to 2015-10-23 · Calhoun, Texas

Event narrative

Water was over the road at the Crabbing Bridge, RV Park at 22nd Street, and the Cabanas at Magnolia Beach. The Indianola Fishing Center and the Indianola RV Park were under water. Portions of Comal Road at Powderhorn Lake were under water.

Wider weather episode

Persistent onshore flow over several days produced large swells with long periods which impacted the middle Texas coast. Tide levels ranged from 1.5 to 2 feet above the expected levels over the period from October 21st to the 23rd. This caused minor to almost moderate tidal overflow along the coast when tide levels approached 3 feet above mean sea level. Bay levels also increased to above 2 feet above mean sea level during this time. Water reached the dunes on Padre Island National Seashore where some erosion of the dunes occurred. Many roads were closed from Flour Bluff and North Beach to Rockport and Magnolia Beach.
