What EF1 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF1 is moderate damage: roofs badly stripped, mobile homes pushed off foundations or overturned, windows broken, consistent with estimated gusts of 86–110 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

This tornado began about a mile east of US Highway 61 and moved northeast, downing trees and power lines along the path. The tornado continued into Coahoma County producing more significant damage farther northeast resulting in an overall EF-3 rating.

The wider storm

Abundant moisture and instability combined with a strong upper level system to bring severe storms to the region. North Mississippi endured much of the severe weather this day thanks to atmospheric capping over Central Mississippi.

Began near Hushpuckena (34.0000, -90.7100).
