What EF1 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF1 is moderate damage: roofs badly stripped, mobile homes pushed off foundations or overturned, windows broken, consistent with estimated gusts of 86–110 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

The tornado impacted mainly rural areas of Manatee County. Numerous pictures of a line of snapped trees along the path were received. No storm survey was conducted due to the very rural located. Strength estimated off of tree damage pictures.

The wider storm

A strong area of low pressure pushing through the Deep South helped guide a cold front through the region on the 24th. The front spawned numerous strong to severe storms across the area some of which produced tornadoes.

Began near Oak Knoll (27.5400, -82.2000).
