Very strong west/northwest winds developed across the portions of the northern foothills and western Piedmont during the afternoon in the wake of a cold front. Numerous trees were blown down across the area, some of which fell on and took down power lines, resulting in scattered power outages. Some minor roof damage also occurred, including sections of roof peeled off small businesses in Lowell (Gaston County) and Shelby (Cleveland County) and off a mobile home near Love Valley (Iredell County).
