Event narrative
WXIN reported heavy snowfall in central Indiana causing slick roads and hazardous driving conditions. State police and the Lebanon Police Department responded to a crash on northbound Interstate 65 around 1:30 PM. An estimated 40 vehicles were involved in a series of crashes from the 138 to the 140 mile markers. Over 30 people were treated and transferred to local hospitals.
Wider weather episode
An upper level system brought snow to central Indiana during the day on February 14. Many locations received 1 to 3 inches of snow, but a few areas had 4 to 5 inches. The snow caused many automobile accidents on area roads, including a couple of pile-ups on interstates.
