In the wake of an overnight gravity wave event, in which winds reached 40 knots across the lower Texas coastal waters, winds remained strong and gusty across the Laguna Madre during the morning hours of March 31. The strong winds resulted in rough to very rough waters in the Laguna Madre. The winds with gusts of 25 knots and rough to very rough chop capsized a kayak near Holly Beach and one person was drowned.
