Event narrative
Based on an eyewitness report, a large oak tree was twisted at the trunk. A 14 inch diameter pecan tree was twisted and toppled. Damage was confined to about one city block near the Mississippi River on E. St. Peters Street. Time estimated by radar. Damage was consistent with an EF-0 gustnado along the leading edge of a squall line with winds estimated at 75 mph.
Wider weather episode
Low pressure moving along a cold front draped over southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi developed a squall line of thunderstorms that moved through the area late on the night of the 19th into the early morning hours of the 20th. A second line of thunderstorms moved through the coastal waters hours during the morning of the 20th.
