A Tybee Island lifeguard confirmed 1 drowning from a rip current off of Tybee Island Beach.

Wider weather episode

Strong high pressure building from the north and offshore low pressure helped produce a strong northeast wind ahead of an approaching full moon. These conditions produced an elevated risk of rip currents along the Southeast Georgia coast.
