Strong currents pulled a swimmer into deep water off Stockton Island at Julian Bay, about 15 miles northeast of Bayfield. The victim was found after a 5 hour search. Sea conditions were rough with 8 foot waves and heavy, breaking surf on the beach.

A teenage boy drowned in the water of Lake Superior in the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore after being pulled into deeper water by a rip current.
