Event narrative

The Troup County Emergency Manager reported a large tree was blown down onto and destroyed a house in the 1200 block of East 8th Street in West Point. Seven people were inside the home at the time, six escaped without injury. A seven-month-old infant was crushed to death in his crib.

Wider weather episode

A deepening upper-level trough over the southeastern U.S. combined with a cold front moving south across the state resulted in widespread severe thunderstorms across North and Central Georgia during the afternoon and evening.
