Event narrative
About 3.5 inches of rain fell in the Seward area, with 1.72 inches falling in a 6 hour period. The Resurrection River, adjacent to the Seward airport, rose 5 ft in 24 hours, resulting in water and debris impacting the runway and causing a 2 day closure of the airport.
Wider weather episode
A triple point low associated with a low in the Bering Sea developed in Bristol bay and moved into the Gulf of Alaska. The associated occluded front brought high winds to Anchorage, the Kenai Peninsula and the Prince William Sound as it progressed through the region, as well as flooding to the Seward area.
