A swell from a powerful low far northwest of the islands produced surf of 25 to 40 feet along the north- and west-facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, and Molokai; and the north-facing shores of Oahu and Maui; and 20 to 30 feet along the west-facing shores of Oahu and the north-facing shores of the Big Island of Hawaii. One man drowned on the 8th on the north shore of Kauai, in an area to the east of Kilauea called Larsen's Beach. The surf was reported to have been high at the time, according to the online site Honolulu Civil Beat. There were no reports of serious property damage, or any other fatalities or significant injuries.
