Numerous accidents were reported across the region on December 17th due to icy roads, especially during the morning hours. A lull in the precipitation and temperatures warming to near freezing led to some improvement during the late morning and afternoon before untreated roads iced back up during the evening.
Wider weather episode
Periods of light freezing rain, sleet, and snow with temperatures in the 20s to low 30s created hazardous travel conditions on December 17th. Ice accretions were generally less than a tenth of an inch.
