Event narrative
Anywhere from 2 inches in the valleys to 8 inches in the mountains fell with this event. The cold front moved through on the evening of Dec. 4th creating gusty winds between 20 and 36 mph, blowing snow, and below zero wind chills at Bannock Pass and other ridge-top locations. The single digit temperatures in the valleys created slick driving conditions.
Wider weather episode
After an unusually warm November, this event was a large change to cold and wintry conditions for travelers and hunters alike. A warm front followed by a cold front brought periods of heavy snow that caused slick driving conditions to north central Idaho. Cold temperatures developed at the end of the event contributing to solidifying moisture on the roads and slick roads for the morning commute on Dec. 5th.
