Event narrative

Several reports of 4 to 6.5 inches of snow were received from CoCoRaHS observers and the public in the Hiawassee, Friendship and Young Harris areas.

During the afternoon of January 6th through the morning of January 7th a fast moving but strong storm system swept across the southeastern U.S. A cold airmass across north and central Georgia combined with rich moisture drawn north from the Gulf of Mexico to produce a mixture of rain, sleet, freezing rain and snow across north and portions of central Georgia.
