Event narrative

Based upon the surface analysis and reported wind in Thompson Pass and Valdez, it is estimated the wind gusts were at a minimum 75 KT out of the Copper River Delta.

Wider weather episode

Surface 982 Mb low located in the northern Gulf of Alaska combined with high pressure situated over the interior provided a tight pressure gradient over Northeast Prince William Sound. Cold air advection, and orientation of gradients produced a high wind event.
