Event narrative

A thunderstorm moved across Reagan County and produced a 63 mph wind gust five miles southwest of St. Lawrence.

Wider weather episode

An upper level trough moved over the region from the Rocky Mountains and provided an increase in lift. There was good instability, moisture, and wind shear across the area. These conditions resulted in thunderstorms developing with large hail and strong winds across southeast New Mexico and West Texas.
