Thunderstorm winds brought down trees and power poles across the city of Galax.

A warm front lifted north through the Mid-Atlantic region during the afternoon of May 9th when it triggered isolated severe thunderstorms across portions of the Mountain Empire of Virginia. These storms were relatively fast moving, and produced large hail and damaging winds in the form of downed trees.
