Instability associated with the combination of a nearby upper level low pressure system and strong daytime heating triggered scattered thunderstorms that would intensify quickly in a weakly-capped atmosphere. Downdraft CAPE values were in the range of 800 to 1100 J/Kg across the region. These conditions allowed for the development of severe thunderstorms that produced large hail and damaging winds.
