Event narrative
There were several reports of very heavy rainfall including one that came from the NWS COOP observer at the golf course: 0.75 of rain in 20 to 25 minutes. Multiple homes experienced flooded basements, man hole covers were lifted off and floated down roads, and Westhill Park road was flooded with a depth of up to 4 feet. The Old Works Golf Course in Anaconda reported the cost to repair flood damage to be $660,000.
Wider weather episode
An upper level wave tracked up from the Clearwater Mountains of Idaho towards the Seeley Lake area and initiated thunderstorms thanks to warmer than normal temperatures in the region. As these storms tracked over the Bitterroot and Clark Fork Valleys, they produced damaging winds and power outages. Also, a thunderstorm produced torrential rain and subsequent flash-flooding to Anaconda in southwestern Montana.
