High temperatures were between 110 and 115 degrees at several locations from July 7 through July 9.

Wider weather episode

A large area of high pressure centered over the Great Basin provided the area with much warmer than normal temperatures between July 7 and July 9. Highs topped 105 degrees across much of the San Joaquin Valley during this period and were between 110 and 115 degrees across the Kern County Deserts. Several locations in these area remained above 80 degrees on the morning of July 8. A Heat Advisory was posted for the central and south San Joaquin Valley for July 7 which was upgraded to an Excessive Heat Warning for July 8 and 9. An Excessive Heat Warning was also in effect for the Kern County Deserts from July 7 through July 9.
