What EF1 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF1 is moderate damage: roofs badly stripped, mobile homes pushed off foundations or overturned, windows broken, consistent with estimated gusts of 86–110 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

NWS meteorologists surveyed damage in northern Bibb County and determined that the damage was consistent with an EF1 tornado. The tornado spun up along a hunting road south of Hopewell Church Road, where a couple of trees were downed. It paralleled Hopewell Church Road and reached its greatest intensity near a pond. Numerous trees were snapped and uprooted on both sides of the pond. The tornado dissipated north of the pond, prior to reaching Hopewell Church Road.

The wider storm

The remnants of Hurricane Harvey tracked northeast across Louisiana and along the Mississippi River. Feeder bands on the east side of Harvey produced four tornadoes across central Alabama.

Began near River Bend (33.1008, -87.1718).
