Event narrative

Dense fog was widespread across the county through the period. Local law enforcement said a 60 year old man was killed in a two vehicle crash. The man was driving west on Pleasant Road around 5 p.m. Sunday. A vehicle driven by a 27 year old male, was northbound on Summit Road, and due to foggy conditions, one of the drivers did not see a stop sign, striking the other vehicle and forcing it into a tree. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver and a passenger were treated for minor injuries. While the fog was a factor, speed likely a larger one.

Wider weather episode

Warm, moist air moved over an extensive snowpack to cause rapid melting of the snow. The result was dense advection fog which reduced visibility to less than a quarter mile and in many areas near zero. The fog at least partially contributed to an accident in St Joseph county MI where 1 person died and 2 others were injured.
