Interstate 40 was closed for several hours just east of Ash Fork due to icy roads, steep grades, and crashes.

Wider weather episode

A compact upper low and a well-defined frontal band brought rain and higher elevation snow to northern Arizona. This caused traffic problems and a two hour delay for schools.
