Winter Weather in Northern Jasper, Texas

Winter Weather January 16, 2018 · Northern Jasper, Texas

What the National Weather Service wrote

A light dusting of snow over a thin glaze of ice occurred during the morning of the 16th. Area travel was interrupted and area schools canceled classes for the day.

The wider storm

An arctic cold front passed through the area during the evening of the 15th. The cold air mass filtered in during the night and light rain transitioned over to snow as temperatures fell below freezing. Accumulations were less than an inch, however icy spots closed bridges across the area which produced travel problems. Strong north winds from a front on the 12th and again on the 16th produce low tides along the coast for 6 cycles.
