Heavy Snow — Western Columbia River Gorge, Oregon

2018-02-20 · Western Columbia River Gorge, Oregon

Event narrative

Storm spotter reported 8 inches at Beacon Rock. Also, a CoCoRaHS observer recorded 6.9 inches in Corbett.

Wider weather episode

A cold low pressure system slid down the coast and stayed offshore, pulling cold air from east of the Cascades into western Oregon. This brought snow levels down to sea level, and moisture from the low pressure system meant snow down to the valley floor in the north Willamette Valley, and snow down to the Coast Range and Cascade Foothills farther south.
