Event narrative

A National Weather Service survey team found an area of intense thunderstorm wind damage in Haralson County. Thousands of trees were blown down in a swath approximately 8 miles long and almost 2 miles wide. The damage originated along Broad Street at the Alabama/Georgia state line and swept east into northern sections of the town of Tallapoosa. A secondary surge of wind extended this path eastward along Highway 120 from the northern sections of Tallapoosa to Macedonia Church Road near Haralson County Middle School. Many trees fell onto and damaged homes and other structures. No injuries were reported.

Wider weather episode

Widespread severe thunderstorms broke out across central and north Georgia during the evening hours of March 19th, through the early morning hours of the 20th as a warm front lifted north across the region ahead of a strong storm system developing across the lower Mississippi Valley.
