Event narrative
Lightning sparked multiple wildfires across Collier County, with drier than normal conditions and gusty winds contributing to the rapid spread. Two of these fires the Greenway and 116th Avenue fire combined shortly after each ignited. The large fire burned 17,957 acres in interior Collier County, causing periodic road closures of State Road 29 and several other local roadways. A RV, hunting camp and another unknown structure were destroyed in the wildfire.
