Event narrative
The county saw generally to 3 to 5 inches of snow, but there were isolated higher amounts at elevated locations. A CoCoRaHS observer reported 10.3 inches of snow three miles north of Fahnestock State Park. The public reported 7.6 inches of snow in Mahopac. The broadcast media reported one fatality due to the strong winds. An 11 year old boy was killed when a tree was knocked down onto a house at 1215 pm in Putnam Valley.
Wider weather episode
A rapidly intensifying low pressure developed along the Middle Atlantic during the early morning hours on March 2, 2018. The low moved slowly off the coast and became nearly stationary near the 40N/70W benchmark. The storm brought winter storm conditions to portions of the Lower Hudson Valley, especially in the higher elevations.
