Wider weather episode
Precipitation developed across the northern foothills and northwest Piedmont during the morning of the 24th, as a warm front lifted slowly north across the Tennessee Valley and the Carolinas. After falling as rain for much of the day, precipitation turned to snow and sleet during the evening as cooler air funneled into the area from the northeast. Many areas along and north of I-40 received a quick half inch to 2 inches of snow and sleet before the precipitation tapered off during the early morning hours.
