Event narrative

The NOAA/CO-OPS station at Brazos Santiago, just inshore from the Boca Chica Jetty, recorded a peak gust of 43 knots, with nearly two consecutive hours of gale force gusts between 35 and 43 knots, as a line of strong thunderstorms crossed through the waters along a late season cold front. Location of the event listed here is a proxy to Brazos Santiago just north of the jetty, based on historical analogs of similar events with similar gusts in northerly flow along and behind significant cold fronts.

Wider weather episode

A late season cold front was accompanied by fast moving band of thunderstorms. Wind gusts associated with the storms reached 35 to near 45 knots from the north as they swept through; in some cases, the high gusts lasted for nearly two hours. Similar gusts continued after the storms passed, associated with the pressure gradient from high pressure building through south Texas from the north.
