What EF1 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF1 is moderate damage: roofs badly stripped, mobile homes pushed off foundations or overturned, windows broken, consistent with estimated gusts of 86–110 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

A tornado developed southwest of Purcell and moved northeast passing near Purcell Lake and into the north side of Purcell. Large trees were uprooted and outbuildings destroyed in the north side of Purcell. The tornado crossed the Canadian River into Cleveland County north of Lexington.

The wider storm

Several discrete supercells formed off a dryline in the eastern parts of the panhandles in the late afternoon of the 2nd. These storms moved eastward through the evening, eventually congealing into a line before coming across central Oklahoma. QLCS tornadoes became a significant hazard at this point. After this round of storms made its way out of the area, scattered storms began to form from central Texas up into south western Oklahoma overnight, moving generally northeast into the early morning hours.

Began near Purcell (34.9920, -97.3940).
