The wider storm

A broad area of upper level low pressure moved into the western part of the U.S. on the 16th and persisted through the 17th. The low also resulted in bands of moderate to heavy rain developing north of the main center of the low stretching across the northern Sierra and into far western Nevada on the 16th.
