Event narrative
Heavy rainfall from thunderstorms led to flash flooding at the KOA Campground 3.75 miles north-northeast of Hermosa. Radar estimates half an inch to an inch of rain fell with thunderstorms.
Wider weather episode
As high pressure spun southeast of the Four Corners region, subtropical moisture moved northward along the western periphery of the high. This increase in moisture produced some thunderstorms with heavy rainfall in La Plata County. Flash flooding and significant debris flow occurred over the 416 fire burn scar.
