The gust was recorded by mesonet station D6222 2 miles southeast of Bayfield, WI, at the west end of Madeline Island.
Wider weather episode
A cold front worked across the area from north to south during the evening. Rich, low-level moisture was in place ahead of the front and numerous strong to severe storms developed. Storm motion was west to east parallel to the front and heavy rainfall was being observed. A few of the storms maintained intensity as they moved over Lake Superior.
