Dense Fog in Chaves County Plains, New Mexico

Several media outlets and NMDOT reported that a woman and her one-year old son were killed by a semi trailer while crossing the south bound lanes of U.S. 285 at mile marker 96 south of Roswell. The driver of the semi trailer also was injured in the crash. Dense fog was noted as a factor in the crash.

Areas of dense fog developed over the Texas Panhandle and within portions of the Pecos Valley of New Mexico during the early morning hours of September 28th. Visibility was reported below an eighth of a mile in a couple locations within De Baca and Chaves counties. The two were pronounced dead at the scene. Fog and low visibility were noted as factors in the accident.
