Event narrative

Wilkes County Emergency Management reported areas along Flat Rock Road, near Newford Creek, had at least 6 inches of water running over the roadway. Radar estimates indicate 6 to 8 inches of rain occurred in the northeast portion of the county.

Wider weather episode

Persistent, strong southwesterly upper-level flow over the region combined with a very moist atmosphere to produce widespread thunderstorms with very heavy rainfall, and an isolated report of thunderstorm wind damage.
