Flash Flood in Radford (c) County, Virginia

Flooding closed several streets in Radford with water over 2 feet deep reported on 2nd Street. In addition, up to 15 building on the Radford University campus had some water damage, with 12 of those described as significant damage. Two roads in Radford were also damaged, Wadsworth and Fairfax Streets.

Strong storms with heavy rainfall developed in the late afternoon across parts of the New River Valley including Pulaski, Montgomery and the City of Radford. Water was reported over several roadways including on the Virginia Tech campus and over a dozen buildings on the Radford University campus that were flooded. Rain gage reports ending at 7 AM on the 31st included Radford 0.9 WNW CoCoRaHS (VA-RDC-1) 3.00', Radford DCP (RDFV2) 2.55', Blacksburg 0.4 N CoCoRaHS (VA-MN-6) and 2.44', Blacksburg IFLOWS (BLGV2) 2.29'. Most of the rain fell in a much shorter time period however, generally in about 1 hour between 4 and 5 PM EST.
