Event narrative
Flash flooding was observed in parts of Roanoke City. Ore Branch flooded near the Ramada Inn on Franklin Road with some hotel customers moved to different locations. Water was also reported flowing over Franklin Road, Brambleton Road and in the Raleigh Court area. A home basement was flooded along Northwest Hershberger Road.

Nighttime storms with heavy downpours formed across portions of the Blue Ridge and foothills including the Roanoke metro area. Several reports of flash flooding in and around Roanoke were received. Radar estimated up to 2 to 3 inches fell in just a few hours in parts of Roanoke City and adjacent parts of Roanoke County. These estimates were closely verified by rainfall reports at 12z (0700 AM local time) on the 12th that included 2.86 inches at Roanoke 5.5 SW CCR (VA-RN-3), 2.82 inches at Hidden Valley MS (HVMV2), 2.69 inches at Cave Spring 2.4 SSW CCR (VA-RN-1), 2.56 inches at Peters Creek IFLOWS (PTRV2) and 2.49 inches at Strauss Park RG (SPKV2).
