Event narrative

The Massachusetts Steamship Authority ship named Island Home's captain reported observing a waterspout (photo attached). The ship had departed Oak Bluffs and spotted the waterspout facing southwest toward Naushon Island.

Wider weather episode

A strong upper level short-wave trough with a very cold pool of air aloft and strong jet dynamics triggered localized flooding and a few waterspouts off the southern Massachusetts coast in the morning.
