Event narrative
Freezing rain and drizzle developed mid-afternoon on January 22nd and continued into the evening. Temperatures did warm above freezing into the morning of January 23rd while the rain continued, though sub-freezing road temperatures kept most secondary roads and sidewalks slick into January 23rd. Many schools and businesses across the region were closed due to these icy road conditions. There were numerous reports of slide-offs and accidents across the region. There was one fatality with a car accident on US 12 Tuesday evening, January 22.

Freezing drizzle and freezing rain developed during the afternoon and early evening hours of January 22nd creating slick roads. Ice accretions of a glaze to one tenth of an inch were common.
