A blaze charred about 200 acres of dry brush near Wailea in leeward East Maui. Around 100 people had to evacuate the area, including guests at a luxury hotel. Firefighters struggled for a time with the blaze because of breezy, swirling winds. No injuries were reported, and the cost of any damages was not available. The cause of the fire was not known.
