Winter Storm — Casper Mountain, Wyoming

2019-01-21 to 2019-01-22 · Casper Mountain, Wyoming

Event narrative

Heavy snow fell on Casper Mountain. Some amounts included 17 and 14 inches at the Reno Hill and Casper Mountains SNOTEL sites, respectively.

Wider weather episode

An area of low pressure crossed Wyoming and brought heavy snow and strong wind to much of the area. The heaviest snow fell in the favored northerly upslope areas, including Casper and Lander where anywhere from 8 to 12 inches of snow was recorded. Close to a foot of snow also fell near Green River and Rock Springs. Over a foot fell in some of the adjacent mountains as well. The snow also combined with winds that gusted over 50 mph at times that lowered visibility to near zero at times. This led to the closure of many roads for several hours, including Interstates 80 and 25.
