Winter Storm in Rock Springs & Green River, Wyoming

Around Rock Springs and Green River, snowfall amounts ranged from 5 to 11 inches. The snow combined with strong winds to close Interstate 80 for several hours.

An area of low pressure crossed Wyoming and brought heavy snow and strong wind to much of the area. The heaviest snow fell in the favored northerly upslope areas, including Casper and Lander where anywhere from 8 to 12 inches of snow was recorded. Close to a foot of snow also fell near Green River and Rock Springs. Over a foot fell in some of the adjacent mountains as well. The snow also combined with winds that gusted over 50 mph at times that lowered visibility to near zero at times. This led to the closure of many roads for several hours, including Interstates 80 and 25.
