Winter Storm — Flaming Gorge, Wyoming

2019-01-21 to 2019-01-22 · Flaming Gorge, Wyoming

Event narrative

A trained spotter measured 11 inches of snow at the Buckboard Marina.

Wider weather episode

An area of low pressure crossed Wyoming and brought heavy snow and strong wind to much of the area. The heaviest snow fell in the favored northerly upslope areas, including Casper and Lander where anywhere from 8 to 12 inches of snow was recorded. Close to a foot of snow also fell near Green River and Rock Springs. Over a foot fell in some of the adjacent mountains as well. The snow also combined with winds that gusted over 50 mph at times that lowered visibility to near zero at times. This led to the closure of many roads for several hours, including Interstates 80 and 25.
