AWOS station KSPR in Ship Shoal Block 178 reported a 39 knot sustained wind in a thunderstorm.

Wider weather episode

Deepening low pressure moving from Texas to the Lower Ohio River Valley generated a line of thunderstorms that moved through southern Mississippi and southeast Louisiana during the afternoon hours of the 18th. A wake low developed after the passage of the front, producing several areas of strong winds and minor wind damage.
