Strong winds impacted portions of southern Colorado during the afternoon of the 3rd with numerous reports of wind gusts in the 60 to 79 mph range recorded near the Air Force Academy in El Paso county, with even a report of a 81 mph wind gust observed 3 miles to the west-southwest of the Air Force Academy. Elsewhere, a 64 mph wind gust was noted near Fountain, while 65 mph wind gusts were observed near Wetmore and Manitou Springs. In addition, a large tree knocked down by the strong winds caused damage to a business in Westcliffe.
